GPS Technician / Model Builder

r & R Construction Co., Inc., a well-established site contractor located in Morris County, New Jersey has excellent job opportunities for skilled GPS Technicial / Model Builder to work in our state of the art equipment repair facility.

Founded in 1960, R & R Construction Co., Inc. is a family owned site contractor specializing in heavy earthwork, underground utilities, and paving operations concentrated in northern and central New Jersey as well as Pennsylvania. R & R has project managers and superintendents as well as a full-time safety officer overseeing an OSHA compliant program.  R & R has a full service heavy equipment and truck repair facility specializing CAT equipment and trucks. Staffed with full time mechanics and craft workers, the facility includes a machine shop, a fabrication shop and a parts department. Our shop has earned the respect as a preferred repair facility for all types of heavy equipment and trucks. On the construction side, our use of GPS technology allows for efficient site management, with over 175 pieces of equipment and in-house staff of mechanics, downtime is minimized and projects stay on schedule.

Tandidates will be responsible for creating 3D CAD models of projects. This requires proficient plan reading, CAD skills, and some engineering analysis, specifically with earth moving. This individual will also work in the field, setting up GPS on the Equipment and training.

Responsibilities:

Analyzes information from contact drawings, specifications, and field surveys

Uses Autodesk Civil3D and Trimble Business Center to develop surfaces and line work for guided machines and survey devices

Verify that the data issued to the field is accurate, constructible, and per plan.

Identifies conflicts and resolves ambiguity in the engineer/owners's design. Works with project Engineers and Project Managers to generate FRI's that address plan inconsistencies.

Updates model data where applicable

Maintains organized file system

Creates exhibits to assist in the planning or execution of the work

Prepares as-built drawings from topographic data collected on the job site

Know the functionality of the software, rover, cables, etc. and be able to navigate around programs and troubleshoot when needed

Field calibration of GPS project sites

Train field staff in use of equipment and software as needed

Assignment, delivery and tracking of assignment equipment

Perform regular maintenance on equipment

Drone Capabilities also a plus

Requirements:

Proficient using CAD or strong desire to learn

3D modeling experience in Autodesk Civil3d or similar program

Understanding of serving & machine guidance equipment & software

Basic Civil blue print reading skills

Must have computer experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Trimble Software

Education / Work Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or demonstrated related experience

3+ years of experience in Civil Engineering
